This is a fascinating article about the language used to motivate click throughs on your blog or web site. Reminds me of what sales people refer to as “a call to action” except with some hard data to back it up.

Speaking of calls to action. I’m reminded of the time I worked for awhile doing advertising for a high end plumbing installation business in Jupiter, Florida where every community is gated and comes with it’s own golf course. Anyway I produced a direct mail piece that was just a well tanned and fit guy floating in his pool on an inflatable chair, sipping a drink. The tag line was “Don’t you have better things to worry about than your plumbing?” A not so subtle call to action appealing to a niche market.

They sold a lot of $2500 Toto Toilets off of that mailing.
