Congratulations to the happy couple and to the state of Iowa for having the courage and decency to recognize the rights of all persons to get married if they so choose. Contrary to the thinking of those folks who oppose same sex marriages, the state of Iowa has not been beset with plagues, floods or other forms of hellfire. In fact it seems that Iowans are just going about their business as they should. There’s a lesson to be learned here and that is a little tolerance goes a long way towards making society a better place for us all.

There is always a moment in our collective history in the USA when we citizens can come together to resolve to make something happen. The time after WWII was such a time, the civil rights movement was such a time and now with the horrific environmental disaster unfolding in the Gulf of Mexico , we have another of those transformative times. What more do we need in the way of evidence that drilling in our oceans to feed our addiction to oil is a bad deal. The oil companies do not own this country, we do, our children do. We only have one planet, there is nowhere left to go. Stand up. Do something. Do this on June 26th. Send a message to the President and the Congress that the environment matters.

Finally, an alternative to the racist, fear mongering rants of Fox News and their Tea Pary Movement. As they say in the Coffee Party, “Wake up and Stand Up.” It’s not too late. Kudos to Annabel Park the movements founder.

An Interesting piece by Design Talk’s John McWade regarding  the new Winter Olympics Logo from a design perspective.

This is an amazing video piece on a number of levels. The images and production values are haunting. The story articulated by the young man is very compelling and showcases a well spoken, intelligent and articulate 14 year old who is living and thriving in NYC. So many kids his age coming from separated or divorced parents spend their adolescence being angry and resentful. Joshua and one must assume his parents have opted to manage this emotionally chaotic time with grace, humor and love for their son. This is readily apparent from just watching this short but poignant video. Watch it.
