Conservatives Condemn Liz Cheney’s ‘Al-Qaida 7′ Attack Ad – AOL News. Just when you think that Dick Cheney may have finally gone away he rears his ugly head in the form of another Cheney, daughter Liz. Do you think they stay up late sitting around the kitchen table thinking about this paranoid, conspiratorial nonsense or does it just occur spontaneously. As they say in the Coffee Party, “wake up and Stand Up.” The lunatic fringe is alive and well and clear thinking Americans must speak up.
Palin Assails Obama at Tea Party Meeting – Readers’ Comments – NYTimes.com.
Over 1100 comments to this story in the NYT since this morning and overwhelmingly they are all in agreement that Ms. Palin is an opportunistic, narcissistic, self promoting moron who panders to the lowest common denominator and preys upon the fears and prejudices of the electorate. I would imagine that John McCain has nightmares about unleashing this shrill harpie on the world.

Do we really want people who dress up in costume running the government. Check out the expression on the reporter’s face. He looks on the verge of bursting into laughter.
This is a great piece by an admittedly conservative leaning journalist. Of particular interest is the notion that Sarah Palin manages to cash in on the idea that thoughtful and reasoned decision making is bad for the country and those who practice such thinking are “the intellectual elite.” In my own experience it has been all to common to hear disparaging remarks made about anyone who is more literate, more educated, more well traveled and just plain different from “real Americans” as Ms Palin likes to call her fans. As Rob Dreher so aptly points out and I whole heartedly agree, I want my elected officials and government leaders to be smarter and more knowledgeable than I am about the matters of governance. The idea that a Sarah Palin or a Glen Beck, no matter how popular they are has a clue about running the country is one of the most frightening ideas to emerge in a long time.
It would appear that the former (I had to quit my job 18 months before my term was up to do more important things) govenor of Alaska will soon join her fringe friends that have decided Charlie Crist is unsuitable for the Senate in Florida. Governor Crist Becomes a Right-Wing Target – NYTimes.com. If history is an indicator this will end up just like the attempt to influence the election in upstate New York two weeks ago. Maybe this will be the entry point for Jeb Bush (remember him, I do because I lived there at the time) to return the Bushies to public office. Now that’s really scary!
